The Board meets every other month and carries out many of its responsibilities through committees. Some of these responsibilities include:

  • Mission - with staff, we hone the mission of the organization, its programs and services
  • Oversight - we support and evaluate the performance of the executive director and adopt governance policies
  • Resources - we manage resources effectively and help provide adequate financial resources through fundraising
  • Outreach - we listen to community stakeholders and promote the organization to the public

Ellen Barnard


Ellen is a community organizer and social enterprise business owner who is passionate about empowering people to grow and cook food for themselves and others. She and her partner live on an urban farm with a greenhouse and a former lawn-turned-raised bed vegetable garden space, chickens, fruit trees and bushes. She enjoys facilitating organizational growth and development when she is not teaching or practicing yoga.

Outside Credentials: Founder, The Friends of Cherokee Marsh; Coordinated the planning and development of the FEED Kitchens; offers yoga classes for all abilities under the moniker "Bountiful Yoga Madison"; Owner, A Woman's Touch.

Nadya Aswad

Nadya is a senior-level certified privacy professional with degrees in law and technology. She has more than fifteen years of experience as a privacy and security professional for global companies in various industries, and has built, implemented, and led information management and privacy compliance programs. Nadya enjoys gardening at Troy Community Gardens and participating in community activities. When not working or gardening, Nadya plays on softball and ice hockey teams in Madison.

Lindsey Day Farnsworth

Mary Linton

Mary Linton is a Madison community advocate. She has over 30 years of business experience, most recently serving as the Director of Enterprise Solutions for Promega Corporation where she worked in various roles since joining the company in 1993. With a background in accounting and business, Linton has experience in auditing, corporate development, strategic planning, marketing, management and identifying business solutions. She played a key role in helping Promega commercialize reagents for forensic identification by DNA analysis and has extensive experience in international business.
